"Indiana's
Breeding Sensation"
Welcome
to my site. As an artist, I strive to keep true to form in my
creations, leaving an indelible mark of beauty on the earth. Being
named one of the top 10 hybridizers in the United States, and
a Master Judge, brings me great challenge. Locally I am known
as "The Hosta Lady". I pour a lot of creative passion
into making new cultivars for you to enjoy.
The
first crosses began in 1986 with lessons and encouragement from
my dear friend and master gardener Bill Brincka. I was hooked.
Through scientific hybridizing, I painstakingly process each plant,
culling for years until I am satisfied with the new creation.
Each new introduction has been observed for at least 10 years,
scrutinizing its stature and stability. When it really talks to
me and wins my heart, I know it's ready to greet the world. Hybridizing
is a life long form of art for me and I will leave behind a legacy
of plants. These hosta will be sure to shine in your garden and
become more beautiful each year.
My
favorites are the really big hostas. As one friend put it, "You
Breed for Giants". The variety of colors can be planted from
one extreme to another. This is the best way to compliment them.
In naming my hostas, I try to think of them in terms of places
or events in the United States. I hope you enjoy my "Americana
Series" and think of the places you have seen. Don't forget
to share them and this site with a friend!
